Program Overview

Explore the ways we provide quality care to children and families

The FACTS Initiative provides trauma-focused, culturally responsive mental health care for children, youth, and families across Charlotte–Mecklenburg. We deliver services in two ways: community-based care through partner sites and outpatient therapy through our office/clinic model, plus a clinical internship program that helps grow the next generation of trauma-informed providers.

outpatient counseling services

FACTS’ Outpatient Program provides high-quality, trauma-focused therapy for children, youth, and families (ages 4–24). Services are open to the public and offered on an income-based sliding scale, functioning similarly to a traditional mental health clinic while keeping care financially accessible.

Clients can receive individual, family, and group therapy using evidence-based approaches tailored to each family’s needs.

Community partnership program

Through our Community Partnership Program, FACTS provides free, trauma-focused therapy by bringing licensed clinicians to trusted community spaces. We collaborate with organizations serving families impacted by trauma and hardship, so clients can access care where they already receive support.

This model reduces barriers like transportation, cost, and stigma, and connects therapy with wraparound resources such as housing, safety, food access, and financial stability services.

clinical internship program

FACTS’ Clinical Internship Program offers supervised training for emerging clinicians who are committed to trauma-informed, culturally responsive care. Interns gain hands-on experience working with children, youth, and families while learning best practices in community-based service delivery.

This program strengthens the local workforce and expands long-term access to quality care in Mecklenburg County.

Our Therapy Approaches

FACTS uses evidence-informed, trauma-focused approaches that help children and caregivers feel safer, build coping skills, and strengthen family relationships. Treatment is tailored to each family’s needs, and caregivers are included whenever appropriate because healing happens best with support at home and in the community.

Some of the therapy approaches we use include:

  • A structured, skills-based therapy that helps children and caregivers process trauma, reduce symptoms, and build coping tools. Sessions often include both the child and caregiver so families can heal together and strengthen support at home.

  • A trauma treatment that uses guided bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or tapping) to help the brain reprocess distressing memories. Over time, this can reduce the emotional intensity of trauma reminders and support long-term recovery.

  • A compassionate, skills-based approach that helps children and caregivers better understand emotions, reactions, and internal patterns. IFS supports self-awareness and regulation so families can respond with more clarity, calm, and connection.

  • Practical, research-based tools for caregivers focused on routines, behavior, and strengthening relationships. Parenting support helps families build consistency and confidence while improving connection and communication.
